Non-Degree Seeking Program
ACADEMIC POLICIES
• Through non-degree status, The Art Center Design College provides non degree-seeking (NDS) students the opportunity to enroll in any of the specified courses each semester.
• NDS students may enroll in a maximum of 6 credits each semester.
• NDS students are not eligible for scholarships or financial aid.
• Priority class placement is given to degree students when a class is required for their major. (Studio classes are limited to 25 students. General Education classes are limited to 30 students.)
• NDS students have two options for registration:
Audit Status: This status allows NDS students to attend a course without receiving a grade or credit.
• Audit units may not be transferred to a degree.
• NDS students who choose the audit status will meet with the instructor during the first week of class to determine the student’s level of participation in the class.
• An Audit status may be changed to a For Credit class during the first two weeks of the semester only. This process must be completed through the Student Services Office.
• Instructors have the right to drop a student for nonattendance. If this occurs, the student can follow the appeal procedure outlined in the Catalog on the College website www.theartcenter.edu.
For Credit Status: This status allows an NDS student to attend a course for credit and receive a grade.
• NDS students taking classes in this status follow the same curriculum and complete the same projects as students enrolled in degree programs.
• Grading for NDS students taking For Credit classes is the same as for degree-seeking students. Grading policies are outlined in the College catalog.
• Instructors have the right to drop a student for nonattendance. If this occurs, the student can follow the appeal procedure outlined in the catalog.
• NDS students taking classes for credit receive a grade report at the end of the semester. The report includes the name of the course(s), credits awarded, and grade point average.
• To receive a transcript of courses completed, NDS students must follow the transcript request process outlined in the College catalog. NDS students are not automatically provided a transcript upon completing their coursework.
Transfer Credits to a Degree Program
• Non degree-seeking students wanting to transfer into an Art Center degree program must follow the admissions procedures outlined in the College catalog.
• A maximum of 15 credits taken in “non degree” status may be applied towards one of The Art Center Design College’s degree programs, providing the course grade is a minimum of a C (2.0) grade. Audited classes cannot be transferred.
• The cost to transfer courses taken in “non degree” status is $355 per credit hour.
